Our Namesake

At the Lisa Ross Birth and Women's Center, we specialize in caring for women with low risk, normal pregnancies. We believe in educating you and your family about the normal changes of pregnancy and signs to watch for so that you can be an active and empowered participant in your own healthcare. We encourage family and friends to be a part of prenatal care, and we enjoy having them attend prenatal visits with you, if desired.

Our Certified Nurse-Midwives provide prenatal care, labor and delivery, and post-partum care. Our three birth options include birth center birth, waterbirth, and hospital birth.

Centering Pregnancy®

We are proud to offer Centering Pregnancy®, a new and innovative way to receive your prenatal care - out of the exam room and into a group space.

Centering Pregnancy is a cutting edge model of prenatal care delivery that combines assessment, education and support. Centering groups consist of 8-12 women due within the same month who meet together for 8 sessions throughout their pregnancies. Group members include first time moms as well as “experienced” moms who can share their previous pregnancy and childbirth experiences. The group sessions are led by a Certified Nurse-Midwife and a Co-Facilitator who have both been trained and certified in the Centering Pregnancy model of care.

Each 1 ½ hour group session begins with self-assessment (weighing yourself, taking your own blood pressure, and calculating your weeks gestation) and individual physical assessment with the midwife (listening to your baby’s heartbeat, etc.). Then, group members gather together to discuss, inform, support and share together along topics from a core curriculum such as nutrition, preparing for labor, family planning, breastfeeding. Special speakers are incorporated during these sessions including lactation consultants, yoga instructors, and newborn experts.

Centering is replacing traditional prenatal care all across the country. Women love the community that belonging to the group provides for them........not to mention no appointments and waiting rooms!
