Our Namesake

At the Lisa Ross Birth and Women's Center, we specialize in caring for women with low risk, normal pregnancies. We believe in educating you and your family about the normal changes of pregnancy and signs to watch for so that you can be an active and empowered participant in your own healthcare. We encourage family and friends to be a part of prenatal care, and we enjoy having them attend prenatal visits with you, if desired.

Our Certified Nurse-Midwives provide prenatal care, labor and delivery, and post-partum care. Our three birth options include birth center birth, waterbirth, and hospital birth.

Building Better Brains
This program is designed to teach mothers and fathers what they can do before their baby is born and during the first few months of life to ensure optimum brain development. Receive a bag of goodies including great books! You will learn HOW to use the tools and WHY it is important for you to help “grow” your baby’s brain.

This class prepares you to breastfeed your baby. It includes lots of information and specific instruction. Bring your support person(s) and any questions or concerns that you may have.

"Birthing From Within" Childbirth Class
This class acknowledges the rite of passage that birth is for women. During the course of this class, women and their partners will experience the modern "need to knows" like: Comfort measures, stages of labor, effective pushing, and how to recognize and cope with early labor while cementing these processes into their everyday lives with multi-sensory activities, including: birth art, sculpting, and the "Next Best Thing" game.

Bradley Method
The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth is an intensive 12 week childbirth preparation course that emphasizes prenatal nutrition, labor preparation exercises and relaxation techniques to manage labor pain.

Childbirth Refresher "Comfort Measures" Class
The refresher class is designed for women who have given birth previously at the birth center or for women who have given birth in the hospital without the use of an epidural. The class highlights the many comfort measures available to women at the birth center. Comfort techniques include the use of visualization, relaxation, deep breathing, position changes, water and others.

Midwife-Centered Childbirth Series
In these four classes, the woman and her partner learn about the midwives model of care, stages of labor, anatomy and physiology, comfort measures for labor, postpartum and newborn care.

Infant Massage
Gentle and loving baby massage has many benefits for both parents and baby and is so much fun! You may find that baby sleeps better, fusses less, and gains more weight. This class is for parents and babies from 3 weeks to 12 months of age, meets for four 1-hour sessions.

Happiest Baby on the Block
Learn the magic 5 S’s to calm and quiet your baby. Parents are encouraged to attend before baby’s birth or soon thereafter. The one-hour class based on Dr. Harvey Karp’s book of the same name includes the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and CD and a swaddling blanket.

How to Be a Grand Grandparent
Come and learn what has changed since you were a parent (including cloth diapers!), the wonderful new things we have learned, and prepare for all the fun you are going to have! A large part of the class will focus on early brain development and the important role you can play in growing your grandchild’s brain! Each set of grandparents will receive a wonderful book about games to play with babies, a book to read to your grandbaby, a copy of Grandparents magazine, and lots of handouts!
